Dental Crowns Atlanta

A dental crown is designed to cover the entire visible portion of a tooth. Today’s crowns provide function as well as aesthetics. We can custom-design a dental crown for you in our Atlanta office to provide support and a natural appearance if you have suffered tooth decay, dental trauma, or tooth loss. We also offer dental bridges, also known as partial dentures, to replace one or more missing teeth. To learn more, please contact our office today.

Why Do I Need a Dental Crown?

When a tooth becomes damaged or diseased, it cannot rebuild the structure it has lost, and it remains vulnerable unless treated with restorative dentistry. A dental crown can protect the compromised tooth from the pressures of biting and chewing. Crowns are an excellent solution in a variety of cases, including;

  1. Structural damage: A cracked, fractured, or broken tooth can often be salvaged by placing a dental crown over it. The crown can support the tooth while absorbing the impact of your bite, preventing further damage.
  2. Extensive tooth decay: Treating tooth decay requires removing the infected tooth tissue. In root canal therapy, where a significant amount of tooth structure is excavated and replaced with a filling, a dental crown is placed as the final step in the procedure to protect the tooth.
  3. Stubborn cosmetic blemishes: Teeth that exhibit intrinsic (internal) stains don’t respond to traditional teeth-whitening. If the entire tooth is discolored, a dental crown can offer a brand new exterior to restore the beauty of your smile. A crown can also restore a small or misshapen tooth to achieve symmetry in your smile.
  4. Tooth loss: As a replica of a natural tooth, a dental crown offers the most lifelike tooth replacement when secured to a dental implant. Designed to mimic lost tooth roots, dental implants are placed in the jawbone by an oral surgeon. When the surgical site heals, the prosthetic tooth root can support your dental crown as securely as natural roots.

Porcelain and Metal Crowns

Dr. Ross, Dr. Kim and Dr. Shah offer a variety of materials to craft the right dental crown. Porcelain is one of the most popular materials used for dental crowns and other dental restorations. Our porcelain dental crowns are created in one of three nearby dental labs, and are designed to match natural tooth color. For additional durability, Dr. Ross or Dr. Shah may recommend E-Max crowns, which are stronger and more natural-looking than dental porcelain; zirconia crowns for patients who grind their teeth or have broken a previous dental crown; or gold crowns, which are usually reserved for posterior teeth (in the back of your mouth).

Caring for Your Dental Crown

Once a crown is placed, caring for it is similar to routine care for natural teeth. Be sure to carefully brush and floss your teeth at least twice a day, and visit Dr. Ross, Dr. Kim or Dr. Shah for a dental checkup and cleaning as often as recommended. Preventing the onset of dental disease is one of the most effective ways of preserving your newly restored smile, as well as avoiding the need for further restorative procedures.

Dr. Neil Shah is my kind of dentist. Not the type to lecture. He’s there to help. Just a cool guy. The front desk staff is top notch, and Jan my hygienist is informative and sweet. I’ll never go to a diff dentist. I’m glad I found this place.
